In 1945 a B24 bomber crash landed in the ocean. Three members of the crew of nine perished. A surviving airman wrote to the parents of one of the deceased, immigrants to this country:
“…I’ll always remember those last fifteen minutes the rest of my life. And I’ll remember the sight of him – calm, his light hair, holding his comrade, and with a smile on his face. A smile that man smiles but once in his life on earth. He knew. He died a hero’s death – for his country and his comrades…And I’ll always be proud to have served on the same crew with such fine men. May God bless them, may they not have died in vain.”
Our prayers go out to all who have given their lives in defense of freedom. Thank you to all the men and women who have served this country.
