Considerations
Edward J. Snowden said that he still considered himself to be an American patriot even after leaking thousands of classified documents, and that he was frustrated to be “stuck in a place” — Russia — that did so little to protect individual rights when he was trying to help protect American freedoms. Finding Russia to be less the free and open country that he imagined, Snowden longs to return home. Humbly he says “I’m not going to give myself a parade.” So here is a perfect opportunity for Obama to patch up his rift with Vlad "the Impaler" Putin. He should convince Putin to relocate Snowden to Siberia for say, five years, before returning this "American patriot" back to face justice in the country he claims to love.

And so the effects of the Obama Doctrine are made known. The Obama Doctrine states that the U.S. will not protect its strategic interests in the world, will not curb the advance of totalitarian regimes and will abandon allies if necessary. We wonder how Poland is feeling right about now. They have seen this movie before.

Meanwhile, Obama does what he does best:

He headed to Florida for a speech on education and then a weekend off with his family, but aides promised he would be monitoring the crisis.

No doubt, he will find time for a round of golf.


The Waiting
The February unemployment rate of 6.7 percent, for example, would have been 10 percent if the 5.7 million workers who are waiting on the sidelines for job openings were included in the jobless rate. (New York Times editorial, 3/8/2014)

Too late for the 2012 elections, the New York Times admits what the conservative press reported at the time. Of course, the Times goes on to explain that high unemployment is the fault of Republicans, and not of President Executive Order.  


The Irritant
Ralph Nader is irritated with Bernie Sanders.

Sanders won’t return his calls, won’t combine forces with other progressives, and as a result, he isn’t getting as much done as he could, the frequent independent presidential candidate and consumer advocate says.

Nader detailed his grievances Thursday in a blunt two-page letter to the Vermont independent senator with the heading, “Bernie, we thought we knew ye!” Then Nader called the Burlington Free Press and shared the letter, which accuses Sanders of “speechifying” but getting nowhere, because he is a “Lone Ranger.” (Burlington Free Press, 3/6/2014)

In the world of conservative blogging, this is what is known as a wonderful gift: two moonbats at odds. 

Of course, we would disagree with Nader in his characterization of Sanders as a "Lone Ranger." To us, Sanders is more of a "Tonto" which would make him "the village idiot."

Incredible
The test drew a crescendo of international condemnation Tuesday, with President Obama calling it a “highly provocative act” that demands “swift and credible action by the international community” against North Korea. (NYT, 2/12/2013)

President Obama added that he was organizing a task force to be headed by Vice-President Biden with the goal of developing recommendations on what the heck to do about North Korea to be delivered within three weeks.


The Warm Embrace of Government
On a central philosophical question of the day — the size and scope of the federal government — a clear majority of young people embraces President Obama’s notion that it can be a constructive force, a point he intends to make in his State of the Union address on Tuesday. (NYT, 2/10/2013)

Well of course the young believe in government. They have yet to feel its oppressive hand. High unemployment among the young and newly graduated has masked for some the seminal moment that most experience when they get out of school, find work and get that first paycheck: 

How much am I paying in taxes? 

Young entrepreneurs will eventually learn what it means to navigate the regulatory hurdles imposed by an interested government. And other young will learn about how the protections put in place for the marginal members of society are abused by free-loaders. Like the 20 year-old described to us recently by a doctor friend who was shopping for a disability diagnosis in order to get yet another government check.

Yes, the young will eventually learn.


Covering Tracks
Menendez is facing a Senate ethics investigation of two free trips he took in 2010 aboard the private plane of a donor, Salomon Melgen, to a luxury resort in the Dominican Republic. After news of the jaunts became public recently, Menendez reimbursed Melgen $58,500. The senator and his various political entities have received almost $50,000 from Melgen and his family, who also gave $700,000 to a super PAC created to elect Senate Democrats. We finally have an Obama Doctrine. It is not quite the one outlined in various major speeches — Cairo, Berlin or the Greco-Roman one delivered at the 2008 Democratic National Convention — but one that has been ingloriously revealed through news leaks and virtually coerced congressional testimony regarding Syria: In a pinch, look the other way. The way we see it, the Liberal media covered for Obama during his first term. Policy failures were attributable to the continuing effects of Bush's mistakes. Any criticism they directed toward Obama was from the Left.  (He hasn't been progressive enough!) During the election they turned mute directing their attention to whether Mitt Romney paid enough taxes or pillaged his way through corporate America. Now with Obama safely re-elected they are free to report occasionally on Democrat peccadilloes or Obama's policy inconsistencies, thus proving their journalistic integrity.
