On The Cusp

Addition By Subtraction
U.S. employers added 157,000 jobs in January and hiring was stronger over the past two years than previously thought, providing reassurance that the job market held steady while economic growth sputtered. The unemployment rate rose to 7.9 percent from 7.8 percent in December.  (Washington Post, 2/1/2013)

The economy will receive once a month updates throughout the next four years, but only because the Liberal media knows that they have to report the unemployment data. (This does not mean, by the way, that they are not looking for ways to avoid reporting such data.) No, they have already decided that the stories of the next four years are going to be immigration, climate change and gay marriage. The Obama administration decided long ago that the economy was a non-starter. (Pun intended!)

Disclosed
The disclosures about Mrs. Clinton’s behind-the-scenes role in Syria and Myanmar — one a setback, the other a success — offer a window into her time as a member of Mr. Obama’s cabinet. They may also be a guide to her thinking as she ponders a future run for the presidency with favorability ratings that are the highest of her career, even after her last months at the State Department were marred by the deadly attack on the American Mission in Benghazi, Libya. (NYT, 2/2/2013)

The Times kicks off the early rounds of the Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign with this love poem. She's a tireless traveler, she pioneered using social media in the Secretary of State role, she was a loyal soldier in the Obama administration  but was also her own person, she followed orders, but pushed back when her principles called for it, and on and on over 32 paragraphs recapping her four years. The brief mention above is all we hear of Benghazi.

Deflection
In Thursday’s press conference, Carney also deflected a question about an immigration-and-sex scandal involving Menendez. In December, immigration agents arrested an intern who worked for Menendez’s staff. The Peruvian intern was an illegal immigrant and a convicted child molester, who worked in Menendez’s New Jersey office. The Associated Press subsequently reported that federal immigration officials delayed any arrest of the man until after Menendez won re-election Nov. 6. (Dailycaller.com, 1/31/2013)

The Menendez scandal has everything that the Liberal media wants in a story: politics, sex, outside money. Unfortunately, it involves a Democrat and so you will hear little of it.

Levels
On one level, what is happening here and elsewhere simply reflects supply and demand. The gun industry has spent decades stoking demand for the AR-15 and rifles like it.  (NYT, 2/2/2013)

Other companies which stoke demand and the products they stoke include the following:

GM - Chevrolet Sierra pick-up truck
Apple - iPad (also iPhone)
McDonalds - Burgers and fries
