Saving Grace

Proven
This was a chance for Mitt Romney to show that he could be a better international leader than President Obama, who has already proved himself in that field. (New York Times editorial, 7/24/2012)

Obama has proved himself in foreign policy? Really, did we miss that memo? RedStateVT notes a new trend from the Obama re-election campaign (which, of course, includes the staff at the New York Times). They just say very debatable stuff about the last four years with no equivocation and no supporting arguments. Hence we get: "Our (economic) plan worked" and "(Obama) has already proved himself in that field." It is as though they are trying to slip it in without us noticing.

Believer
In his speech Tuesday, Mr. Romney cast himself as an “unapologetic believer in the greatness” of the United States while characterizing Mr. Obama as a leader who has “given trust where it is not earned, insult where it is not deserved, and apology where it is not due.” (NYT, 7/24/2012)

Wow. That's a pretty good line.

Fearful
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says he fears that Republicans would do to labor unions at a national level what they’ve sought to achieve in the states should Mitt Romney win the presidency and the GOP control Congress come next January. (MSNBC.com, 7/25/2012)

A Republican sweep? What does Labor know?
