New Dawn
Storyline
"When I think about what we've done well and what we haven't done well," the president said, "the mistake of my first term - couple of years - was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times." (Barack Obama)
We first heard this idea of "telling stories" several years ago at a Harvard Business School seminar. It was touted as a means for CEOs and senior business people to be more effective leaders. No doubt it comes from the same mindset that encouraged Al Gore to dress in "earth tones" and Howard Dean to embrace his "metrosexuality."
Without You
Without Penny Pritzker, it is unlikely that Barack Obama ever would have been elected to the United States Senate or the presidency. When she first backed him during his 2004 Senate run, she was No. 152 on the Forbes list of the wealthiest Americans. He was a long-shot candidate who needed her support and imprimatur. Mr. Obama and Ms. Pritzker grew close, sometimes spending weekends with their families at her summer home. (NYT, 7/15/2012)
Now they tell us?
Exhibition
The way Obama managed the Israeli-Palestinian issue exhibited many of the hallmarks that have defined his first term. It began with a bid for historic change. But it foundered ultimately on his political and tactical misjudgments, on a lack of trusted relationships and on an outdated view of a conflict that many of his closest advisers imparted to him. Great editorial in the Wall Street Journal.....wait.....a news article? In the Washington Post? Is it Backwards Day?
Hilltop
It doesn't matter a hill of beans when Romney left Bain. The discussion ought to be, when is Obama gonna leave the White House? What Romney did with his money is not my concern. What Obama is doing with our money is my concern. (RushLimbaugh.com, 7/13/2012)
We don't quote Rush enough. That has to change!
