Bitter Fruit

Self-Inflicted
Mr. Breivik, 32, a self-described Christian crusader, was calm, cooperative and in control of his emotions, whatever they might have been, Paal-Fredrik Hjort Kraby, a police prosecutor, said Sunday in Oslo. (NYT, 8/15/2011)

RedStateVT has stayed on the sidelines in the debate over how lone psychopaths are described in the press...until now.  The Times is apparently fine with calling the Norway killer "a Christian crusader."  (They cover themselves by using the term "self-described.")  And the Fort Hood shooter?  Did they call him a self-described "soldier of Allah?"  We'll check and get back to you.

Genuine Articles
Mr. Obama was a genuine product of the political culture that had its birth among a marginal group of leftists in the early 1960s and that by the end of the decade had spread metastatically to the universities, the mainstream media, the mainline churches, and the entertainment industry. Like their communist ancestors of the 1930s, the leftist radicals of the '60s were convinced that the United States was so rotten that only a revolution could save it. (Norman Podhoretz, WSJ, 8/15/2011)

Notice how the loudest complaints about “broken politics” come from those who lost the debate. (Charles Krauthammer, Washington Post, 8/12/2011)

Two of the smartest guys out there.....

Book of Jobs
The GOP seems to believe that a federal, state or local job somehow isn’t a “real” job. I’ll bet most Americans know otherwise.(Eugene Robinson, Washington Post, 8/11/2011)

Well, Eugene, what is it exactly that a federal, state or local job creates?  More paperwork?  More obstacles to someone trying to create a product or deliver a service that people want?  Maybe they aren't real jobs, after all!
