Gripping
Even if legacy media still maintained some kind of death grip on American consciousness, it would be hard to claim that the biggest players in those industries are peddling liberal theology.
Think about it. What is the No. 1 newspaper in America by circulation? Why, that would be The Wall Street Journal, a bastion of conservative values on its editorial pages and hardly a suspect when it comes to lefty news coverage. (Though it’s worth pointing out that the paper has published some very tough coverage of Mr. Romney.)
What about radio? Three of the top five radio broadcasters — Mr. Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and the recently departed Michael Savage — have outdrawn NPR’s morning and evening programs by a wide margin. In cable television, Fox News continues to pummel the competition. (NYT, 9/30/2012)
After years of being hammered by RedStateVT and others over its systemic Liberal bias, the New York Times FINALLY responds! And what do they say? Not that they are not biased, because that would laughable. No, instead they subtlety switch the subject and say that there is plenty of conservative media out there for those who want that kind of thing! Sorry Times, you didn't answer the question.
The timing could not have been better (or worse, depending upon your perspective) to discuss the question of media bias. Let's take a look at what two prominent folks from the Left side of the aisle say on the subject:
(Democrat pollster Pat) Caddell noted that while First Amendment protections were originally provided to the press so they would protect the liberty and freedom of the public from "organized governmental power," they had clearly relinquished the role of impartial news providers.
Nowhere was this more evident than during the tragic death of a U.S. ambassador in Libya that was lied about for nine days, because the press and the administration did not want to admit it was a terrorist attack.
"We've had nine days of lies over what happened because they can't dare say it's a terrorist attack, and the press won't push this," said Caddell. "Yesterday there was not a single piece in The New York Times over the question of Libya. Twenty American embassies, yesterday, are under attack. None of that is on the national news. None of it is being pressed in the papers."
Caddell added that it is one thing for the news to have a biased view, but "It is another thing to specifically decide that you will not tell the American people information they have a right to know." (realclearpolitics.com, 10/1/2012)
(Fox News contributor) Kirsten Powers wants to know "What did they know, and when did they know it?" about Obama's massive foreign policy failures in the Middle East as our embassies went up in flames last week. She went on to say that Obama and his State Department underlings are simply lying to us... and the Old Media is letting him slide on this outrage. (Breitbart.com, 10/1/2012)
Kudos to Caddell and Powers for speaking out.
