Quick Question #1
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. defended the use of sting operations orchestrated by government informants, telling advocates for Muslim-American civil rights in remarks on Friday night that the tactic is an “essential law enforcement tool in uncovering and preventing terror attacks.” (NYT, 12/10/2010)

Who is this guy? (By the way, exactly right Mr. Holder!)

Quick Question #2
“This nation has a record-breaking $13.8 trillion national debt at the same time as the middle class is collapsing and poverty is increasing,” Mr. Sanders said. “It seems to me to be unconscionable, unconscionable for my conservative friends and for everybody else in this country to be driving up this already too high national debt by giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires who don’t need it.” (NYT, 12/11/10)

Who exactly are Bernie Sanders’s “conservative” friends?

  1. I like these sting operations! What more goodies can we expect, assassinating violence inciting Imams?

  2. The man ranted for over eight hours pursuing the losing cause of raising taxes in a near depression! Bernie's a nut, but you gotta be impressed with the effort.

  3. 1) Aren't you concerned that innocent, law-abiding young Muslims will be unfairly targeted in these sting operations? We're not either!

    2) Favorite part? When he showed the private yacht of some business tycoon. Wonder how many workers were employed building it....

  4. On the tax deal, I'm okay with it. I don't agree with Dr. K. that the Republicans got taken to the cleaners. I love the Bush tax cut extension, I like the 35% inheritance tax (it mirrors the top rate after a $5mm exemption - more than reasonable for the trustifarians), and the unemployment extension doesn't bother me too much (ultimately, it will keed unemployment higher and hurt Barry politically).

The one thing I hate though is the payroll tax break. I've never understood why otherwise staunch Republicans favor it. Sure, it's a tax cut, but the payroll tax is the one big regressive tax that offsets somewhat the extreme progressivity of the income tax code. It's the one tax where the middle class pays their "fair share" of the massive entitlement spending that primarily goes to benefit the very same middle class. What's next Republicans, raising the cap on income?
