Someone And Someone

Unhinged
The city’s new regulations regarding coffee hinge on delicate calculations about milk, calorie and sugar ratios. As with other sugary drinks, coffee cups 16 ounces or smaller are unaffected. But unlike sodas, which will max out at 16 ounces, cups of coffee larger than 16 ounces can still be served as long as the barista adds no more than three to five packets of sugar. (The limit depends on the size of the drink.)

And once the drink is handed over, customers can add as much sugar as they want. (NYT, 3/6/2013)

Living in a world run by Liberals.

Engaging
Thursday’s lunch is a departure from much of Mr. Obama’s outreach lately, which has mostly engaged Senate Republicans to counter the paralyzing antipathy toward him in the House. Next week, at his request, he will go to Capitol Hill to separately meet with both parties in both the House and Senate. (NYT, 3/7/2013)

More than four years later, Obama finally reaches out. Good for him.

Memo to Republicans:

  • Thank the president and indicate a willingness to meet with him anytime.
  • Bargain in good faith.
  • Follow the Boehner rule and do not negotiate privately; rather immediately disclose the details of these discussions. After all, the president professes to champion transparency.
